Fractured Soul
(Fractured Light #2)
Llona will do whatever it takes to protect her new found friends and home, but the dark plot threatening Lucent Academy, a school that’s supposed to be a safe place for Auras, may be too powerful for even Llona to defeat. This fast-paced tale of love, loyalty, and overcoming the darkness will keep you on the edge of your seat until the last page!

What others are saying:
I love these books! A kick-butt heroine and a hottie love interest, with a refreshingly original concept. Be prepared—once you start, these are hard to put down.

Fractured Soul is a brilliant sequel, exceeding even the remarkable first book in the series. It will haunt your every waking moment between the times you’re reading it, and it will stay with you long after you’ve finished. It’s an amazingly well written and engrossing story that I highly recommend—after you’ve read the first one, of course.

My Review
In this action-packed sequel, Llona is growing into her powers as an Aura, but also realising the damage that her last encounter with a Vyken has left on her. Llona is now at Lucent Academy and now learning about the history of the Auras, but fitting in is not as easy as she thought it would be especially when the other Auras look down on her and all Llona wants to do is fight. As Llona battles the darkness growing inside her, she comes to learn that the very place that is supposed to be a safe place for Aura's might be the one place that could get all of the Aura's killed.

McClellan picks up where Fractured Light leaves off and introduces more of the Auran world that was introduced in the first book, giving the reader a big taste of the traditions and the history in an effort to help understand some of the characters motivations.

Llona is definitely a character who can fight her own battles, and isn't afraid to tell someone when she thinks the system is messed up, which is what makes her character so interesting because this is so the opposite to what Aura's are supposed to be. Together with May and of course Christian, there are a slew of new characters who join Llona in her struggles to find a place in the Auran world.

The story really grabbed my attention from the start and held it through the mystery and the action, all the way through the twists and turns to the end. I would recommend Fractured Soul to anyone who loves kick-ass heroines and a good, strong paranormal romance.

About Fractured Light (Book #1)
Llona Reese is used to living on the run. After the Vykens killed her parents, she knew they would eventually come for her too. She can’t take any chances. But when she starts to make friends for the first time in her life, she gets careless and lets her guard down. Big mistake.
As an Aura, Llona can manipulate light and harness its energy. But if she wants to survive, Llona will have to defy the Auran Council and learn to use her power as a weapon against the Vyken whose sole desire is to take her light. Now she’s caught in something even bigger than she can understand, with a power she can’t wield, and no one she can trust, except, just maybe, a mysterious stranger.

Author interview with Rachel McClellan
  1. Where did you come up with the inspiration behind the book?
When I finished writing Fractured Light. I knew Llona’s journey wasn’t over. I really wanted her to have to battle her inner self like so many of us have to do.
  2. What inspired you to write your first book?
The first book I ever wrote was called The Devil’s Fool. I had the wonderful opportunity to travel to Ireland. Something there inspired me, and I wrote that book in three months. It wasn’t that great and needs major editing love, but this is when I first discovered my passion for writing.
  3. What books/authors have influenced your writing?
C.S. Lewis, Obert Skye, Ayn Rand, Dean Koontz, Markus Zusak and Suzanne Collins.
  4. What was your favourite scene to write?
I loved writing the scene where Llona is chased into and up the clock tower by Vykens. I also liked writing the scene where Llona tries to race the other Auras in her PE class and she gets in trouble for it.
  5. What was the hardest part of writing your book?
Honestly, writing it wasn’t that hard, but editing it was very time consuming. I tend to write very fast, which means I have to add/fix a lot on my first draft.
  6. How do you overcome writer's block?
So far, and thankfully, I’ve never experienced it. I might get hung up on a particular scene, but to get through it, I’ll go for a drive and listen to the composer James Dooley. He always inspires.
  7. What are your current projects?
I’m writing the third in the Fractured Light trilogy, Fractured Soul. I’m also shopping around a YA Gothic paranormal book titled UNLEASHED. It’s sort of a young adult version of Jekyll and Hyde.
  8. What book are you reading now?
I’m currently reading the ARC of UNBELIEVABLE by Sherry Gammon.
  9. If you could have dinner with any fictional character who would it be and why?
Sherlock Holmes, except we wouldn’t eat dinner. I would take him out on crime scenes and learn all I could from him as he solves murders.
  10. Do you have any advice for other writers?
Before you begin any novel, know you’re ending. This will prevent the common mistake of starting a story but then giving up half way because you’re not sure where to go with it. By knowing your ending, you have a place to work towards and an end in sight, which makes the task seem easier.
